Our program helps dogs of all ages enjoy longer, healthier lives.
When it comes to fitness, strength and conditioning, aquatic exercise can be done year-round and can be effective for dogs as young as 12 weeks to as old as 17 years. Especially in our cold weather months, water exercise can be a great option for keeping your dog in shape and get him/her the exercise they need during inclement weather.
Another common reason why dogs are brought in for aquatic exercise is to help them recover following surgery or to help arthritic dogs work their joints, maintain muscle mass, and move around comfortably all while minimizing discomfort.
Suzanne has always loved and admired dogs of all shapes and sizes. As a young teenager, she was fortunate to have an Irish Wolfhound that she showed competitively.
When older, she learned how to swim dogs for exercise. Actually, the dogs taught her! She continues to learn from the dogs 16 years later. Suzanne’s life-long passion for dogs inspired her to open The Fit Canine.
The Fit Canine helps dog-lovers exercise injured, elderly, arthritic or sporting dogs with the goal of improving their quality of life.
“I have been swimming dogs for exercise for more than 15 years. I never get tired of hearing the stories my clients tell me about how their older dogs begin to play like puppies again. Many are seeing dogs do things they haven’t done for years!”
